I first encountered Linda Lowery’s large , lovely baby paintings at Artomatic. Somehow, I resisted urge to cover my ears as could almost hear the piercing screams of these infants.
Linda Lowery says this of her work, on her website….
“In “Baby Baby Baby”, a recent series of sketches and paintings, I strive to capture the facial expressions and trauma in close up portraits of newborns. Although we often project our notions of cuteness and contentment on infants, they come into the world showing the distress of birth. The Hindus say that babies cry when they are born because they are unhappy about leaving the spiritual world to come back into this realm of suffering. Whether it is spiritual or physical pain they are experiencing, these babies resonate with anyone who knows, loves, or remembers being a newborn.”
