I just went to see the show “I Can’t Make Up My Mind!” by Ellyn Weiss today at the Montpelier Arts Center in Maryland today. The show is made up of encaustic sculptures, mixed media work on paper (with encaustic paint work) and encaustic , paper, and other media on plexiglass.
Two works fascinated me. First of all, her large wall sized mixed media paper paintings (all tacked directly to the wall and pictured above) demonstrated such a curious design in wax, pigment and burnt paper. Secondly, her encaustic sculptures, pictured below, felt like they were alive, and literally climbing the walls. Wow!
